Why the Right Baseplate Matters
A baseplate — also called a front mount bracket or tow bar mounting bracket — is
the steel frame bolted to the front of your towed vehicle that gives your tow bar something
solid to connect to. It’s not universal. Every vehicle has a different front frame
structure, which means every baseplate is engineered specifically for one make, model, and
year. Using the wrong baseplate is the most common flat towing mistake — and it can
damage your vehicle, your tow bar, or both.
At RV Camp Champ, we carry
Blue Ox, Roadmaster, and Demco baseplates for
nearly every towable vehicle on the road — from compact cars to full-size SUVs and
trucks. Every baseplate we sell is vehicle-specific and tested for fit. Orders over $100
ship free to the lower 48 states.
Not sure which baseplate fits your vehicle? That’s exactly what our team is here for.
Give us your year, make, and model and we’ll find the right bracket in seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions — RV Baseplates
What is a baseplate and do I need one for flat towing?
Yes — a
baseplate (also called a front mount bracket or tow bar
mounting bracket) is required for almost every flat towing setup. It bolts directly to
the front frame of your towed vehicle and provides the attachment points for your tow
bar arms. Without a vehicle-specific baseplate, you cannot safely connect a tow bar to
your vehicle.
Blue Ox, Roadmaster, and Demco all make baseplates
engineered for specific vehicle makes, models, and years.
Are baseplates vehicle-specific or universal?
Baseplates are
vehicle-specific — there is no universal baseplate
that fits all vehicles. Every car, truck, and SUV has a different front frame structure,
so baseplates are engineered for each exact year, make, and model. Buying the wrong
baseplate is the most common flat towing mistake. Use the brand selectors above to find
your exact fit, or call us at
877-736-2267 and we’ll look it up
for you in seconds.
What is the difference between Blue Ox, Roadmaster, and Demco baseplates?
All three brands make high-quality, vehicle-specific baseplates — but they are
not cross-compatible. A Blue Ox baseplate is designed to connect to
Blue Ox tow bars. A Roadmaster baseplate connects to Roadmaster tow bars. A Demco
baseplate works with Demco tow bars. You must match your baseplate brand to your tow
bar brand, or use a compatible adapter. If you’re buying a complete package,
we make sure everything is matched before it ships.
Can I use a Roadmaster tow bar with a Blue Ox baseplate?
Yes — in some cases.
Roadmaster makes specific tow bar models
(like the Nighthawk RM-677, Falcon 3HD RM-627, and Sterling RM-586) that are engineered
to connect directly to Blue Ox baseplates. These are labeled “fits Blue Ox
baseplates” in the product description. For any other combination, a tow bar
adapter may be required. Call us at
877-736-2267 and we’ll
confirm compatibility before you order.
How difficult is it to install a baseplate?
Most baseplates are designed for
bolt-on installation using existing
frame holes — no welding or cutting required. However, some vehicles require
bumper fascia removal or minor trim work for access. Installation typically takes
1–3 hours with basic hand tools and a torque wrench. Many RVers have a local
hitch or RV dealer install the baseplate while they handle the rest of the towing
setup themselves. We’re happy to answer installation questions — just call
us at
877-736-2267.
