To check: measure the height of your motorhome's hitch receiver and the tow bar connection on your baseplate. If they are more than 3 inches apart, you need an adapter.

How do I know if I need a drop receiver or a rise adapter?
Measure the height of your motorhome's hitch receiver opening and the height of the tow bar connection on your towed vehicle's baseplate. If the motorhome side is higher, you need a drop; if it is lower, you need a rise. The goal is to get the tow bar within about 3 inches of level.
How much drop or rise do I need?
Subtract the two measurements -- the difference is the amount of drop or rise to look for. If you land between sizes, pick the one that gets you closest to level. Staying within about 3 inches is the target.
Why does towing level matter so much?
A tow bar that pulls at a steep angle puts uneven stress on the bar, the baseplate, and the towed vehicle. Towing out of level is one of the most common causes of tow system wear and failure. Keeping it level spreads the load evenly and gives you a more stable tow.
Will a drop receiver fit my tow bar and hitch?
Drop receivers and high-low adapters are sized by hitch opening -- usually 2 inch or 2-1/2 inch -- and by weight rating. Match the receiver size to your hitch and make sure the rating covers your towed vehicle's weight. Tell us your tow bar and hitch size and we will confirm the right one.
Should I measure with the motorhome loaded or empty?
Measure with the motorhome loaded the way you normally travel. Ride height settles once the coach is packed and fueled, so a loaded measurement gives you the real hitch height to work from.
