The baseplate your tow bar hooks to

Vehicle-specific Blue Ox plate for four-down / flat-tow (dinghy) towing. Bolts to the chassis. No welding. Tabs sit tucked when you are not towing. Safe & Easy from the order to the first hookup.

Blue Ox builds one style per vehicle. Check the Other option on this page for which tab you get.

REMOVABLE TAB

Twist-lock arms come off when you park. Clean front on the vehicle.
STANDARD TAB

Fixed arms stay on the plate. Simple, stout hookup.

Install: most of these take about 2 to 4 hours. Factory holes where Blue Ox designed them.

A plate is not the whole kit. You still want:

  • A Blue Ox tow bar — Avail, Alpha, or the bar you already own
  • Dinghy lighting — diode BX8848 or bulb-and-socket BX8869 (use the option on this page)
  • A supplemental brake (Patriot) so the towed vehicle stops with the coach
  • A fuse bypass if this vehicle needs one in Neutral

Kudo's to RVcampchamp and Tom for keeping me informed during the factory order delay experienced.  The baseplate finally arrived as Tom promised, its packaging protected it very well.  No hardware parts were missing. The baseplate itself is very sturdy.  Following Blue Ox's installation instructions, it was not an easy installation to do as a DIY mechanic, even with my extensive experience.  Blue Ox designates it is for a Trax 2RS model but I installed on my Trax ACTIV.  Pictures differ from the actual and some modifications had to be made, and the step order changed.  Removing and refitting the fascia was a trying experience.  Ultimately the job resulted in a very clean looking installation.
