Apollo tow bar BX7475

Class V bar. 12,500 lb. 2" receiver in this package. All-steel. Self-aligning. Folds and stores on the coach. Safety cables included with the bar.

BOX 3

Kit BX88464

7-to-6 coiled cable, 3-lock keyed-alike set, 4-diode tail-light wiring, and a tow bar cover. The pieces people forget until the night before a trip.

Three factory-sealed cartons. Add a Patriot in Options and we ship a 4th carton. The brake is not in this package price on purpose — pick it here, at the package price, instead of as a separate item.

The Apollo tow bar — BX7475

Apollo is Blue Ox's Class V bar. All-steel, 12,500 lb, made in the USA, 3-year warranty. Built for heavy toads — 1-ton pickups and large SUVs — that sit above Avail's 10,000 lb rating. Self-aligning so you are not fighting the arms on a slope. Non-binding release levers and offset triple lugs so unhooking on uneven ground does not turn into a wrestling match. No centering pin, so it folds and stores on the back of the coach. Rubber boots keep road grime out of the legs. Safety cables come with the bar. This package ships the 2" receiver BX7475. Apollo also comes in 2.5" as BX7470 (15,000 lb) at the same package price — pick that in Options when it is offered on this page.

Apollo is the step up from Avail. Extra capacity for heavy toads and 1-ton trucks. Avail is still the right bar when the toad stays under 10,000 lb. Same plate either way.

The toad’s loaded weight must stay under 12,500 lb, and each safety cable must be rated for that weight. Match the motorhome hitch, chassis rating, and braking capacity to the combination — not just the bar. If the coach hitch is 2.5", pick the 2.5" Apollo BX7470 in Options instead of using a reducer.

THIS PACKAGE: STANDARD TAB

BX2696_A is a Standard Tab plate. Fixed arms stay on the plate. Simple, stout hookup. Blue Ox builds one style per vehicle — you do not choose the other tab style on this application. Absolutely no welding. Factory holes where Blue Ox designed them. Most of these plates take about 2 to 4 hours.

Without a brake, the motorhome stops and the tow bar has to stop the car — thousands of pounds, times momentum, shoved through two steel arms. With a brake, the toad stops itself. The bar is not squeezed. Required by law in most states and provinces. Add the Patriot under Add a Brake in Options on this page. That is the package price. Do not buy the brake as a separate item.

KEEP THE BAR LEVEL

Within 3" of level. 0" is the goal.

Tab height is fixed on this Standard plate. If the coach receiver sits more than 3" high or low, add the 8" rise/drop in Options when it is offered on this page. Call 877-736-2267 if you want the height walked before you order.

Already own a Roadmaster or Demco bar? You do not need this complete package — you need the plate plus an adapter. Skip adapters if the bar is Blue Ox.

Questions we get on this package

Can a 2020–2024 Ford Pickup F350 be flat towed?

Blue Ox built a plate for the 2020–2024 Ford Pickup F350 (Super Duty, Adaptive Cruise Control, & Turbo). That is not the same as Ford approving four-down towing. Read the recreational towing section of the owner’s manual, or call us with the exact year and transmission. We will tell you honestly if something else is a better fit.

Why Apollo instead of Avail?

Avail is the 10,000 lb bar. Apollo is the Class V 12,500 lb bar for heavy toads and 1-ton trucks, and Apollo is the one that also comes in 2.5" (BX7470, 15,000 lb) at the same package price. Pick Apollo when the toad is over Avail's rating or you want the heavier bar. Same plate either way. Ask us for the Avail package on BX2696_A if the toad is light and the hitch is 2".

Do I need a brake?

In most U.S. states and Canadian provinces, yes. More important: without one, the coach brakes and the bar has to stop the car. With one, the toad stops itself. The bar is not squeezed by thousands of pounds multiplied by momentum. Add it under Add a Brake in Options. That keeps the package price. Buying the Patriot as its own product is the MAP price.

The coach hitch is 2.5 inch. Will Apollo work?

Yes. Apollo BX7470 is the 2.5" bar (15,000 lb) at the same package price as the 2" BX7475 in this listing. Pick the 2.5" receiver in Options on this page when it is offered. That is cleaner than a reducer sleeve on a 2" shank.

Can I install this myself?

Many customers do. The plate is the longest step. The bar and kit are hookup, not fabrication. We are on the phone if you get stuck. If you would rather a shop does the plate, we can help you talk to them. Blue Ox also has a dealer-install network.
